The
17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations is a long overdue update on the
16th Edition Wiring Regulations. All domestic and industrial electrical
installations and wiring must conform to these regulations and, in order
to align with European documents, the 17th edition contains some substantial
changes over the previous edition.
Anyone
who is involved in the maintenance, installation and/or design of electrical
installations or wiring in buildings will be affected by the 17th edition
wiring regulations as would professional engineers and students needing
to gain recognised electrical qualifications.
This
most recent edition of the regulations will also be important to surveyors,
local authorities, electricians, electrical contractors, consultants
and architects as well as many other allied trades involved in electrical
work.
What’s
in the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations ?
Industrial
and domestic wiring must now conform to the national standard IEE Wiring
Regulations (BS 7671). The latest edition (the 17th Edition) is now
in print and available form leading book retailers and from the IEE
themselves.
There
are many important changes to the structure and technical content of
the latest wiring regulations book, the most significant of which are
summarised below:
City and Guilds 2381 ~ City and Guilds 2391 ~ New Wiring Regulations
New Wiring Regulations UK ~ Seventeenth Edition
A socket outlet can now be installed in bathrooms subject to being 3m
from the edge of a shower or bath and it must be protected by a RCD.
‘Special
Locations’ such as photovoltaic power supplies, fairgrounds and
amusement parks, marinas, exhibitions and floor and heating systems
are now covered in the 17th edition.
The
chapters have now been re-structured and re-numbered for alignment with
international standards.
With
the 16th edition of the regulations having been in place since 1991,
the move to the 17th edition signifies the major changes in the contents
of the latest edition.
